Japanese “boyfriend’s dress shirt dresses” are boyish and girlish all at once

Clever alterations make this a better choice than anything hanging in your boyfriend’s closet.

Japanese and Western fashion preferences don’t always perfectly align with one another. However, there is some overlap in tastes, and you’ll find plenty of people in both regions who think there’s a special mix of playfulness and cuteness in a woman slipping on an oversized man’s shirt and wearing it like a dress.

But thanks to Japanese designer Gomi Hayakawa and fashion label Double Chaca, there’s no need to go raiding a guy’s closet to pull off the look. Hayakawa, who’s also contributed designs for small-bust lingerie brand Feast, has recently unveiled her latest creation. Called the “Hubby One-Piece,” the dress keeps several visual cues from a man’s dress shirt, but makes a few key adjustments to make it a viable garment to wear out and about.

The dress if form-fitting in the torso and down to the small of the back, but loose in the sleeves and near the hemline, providing a slimming and relaxed look. Meanwhile, hidden snaps keep the openings along the front of the dress securely closed, so as not to let the wearer’s skin peek out between the gaps in the buttons.

The other half of Hayakawa’s spring lineup for Double Chaca is the Little Tail One-Piece. The fishtail design may not be as unique as that of the Hubby One-Piece, but it still makes for a breezy, feminine look that’s versatile enough to be paired with various styles worn underneath the sleeveless dress.

Both dresses are available in the two colors seen here, with the Hubby One-Piece priced at 23,000 yen (US$204) and the Little Tail at 21,000 yen. Orders can be made online through retailer Lavi Shop beginning on the evening of March 13, and for those who can’t wait that long, both dresses will also be offered for sale at the pop-up Lavi Shop at Tokyo’s Laforet Harajuku between March 7 and 16.

Walk like a robot cat from the future with Doraemon Reebok shoes

To the casual observer, Doraemon must appear to be the patron saint of Japan; his image can be found everywhere. Doraemon’s face or colour scheme crops up on goods ranging from McDonald’s toys to PC cushions to face masks.

For those unfamiliar with His Works, Doraemon is a robot cat sent back from the future to help schoolboy Nobita navigate the trials and travails of everyday life by producing a series of amazing devices.

While we may have to wait a little longer for a genuine “anywhere door” or “memory bread,” we can now walk, run, and exercise in style with these new Doraemon Reebok trainers, which certainly catch the eye.

Coinciding with the Japanese release of the latest Doraemon movie, Doraemon’s Great Adventure to the South Pole on the March 4, these funky trainers are a collaboration between Reebok Instapump Fury and design company atmos and also go on sale on the same day.

But, fashionistas may ask, what could possibly go with garishly light-blue shoes?

The answer may be yet more Doraemon-themed blueness. Perhaps in the form of this Kway jacket. It does however look a little bit thin for Antarctic adventuring, so that’s probably best left to those with amenable robotic felines.

The shoes are available from the Reebok Harajuku store or the atmos website and retail at 21,600 yen (US$190), including tax. While at time of writing the atmos website only had sizes up to 24.5 (US size 6.5) there is the option to request sizes up to 30 centimetres (US size 12).

The Kway jacket is also available from the atmos website for 13,824 yen. Perfect for that well-known Doraemon and Crossfit-fan niche.

Reebok teams up with Chocomoo to create future noise.

The title might have you left scratching your head, but no worries I left the capital letters of Future and Noise out on purpose to get your attention, cheeky eh? Future Noise is the theme of this collaboration and not some preserved noise to be opened in the future (well some folks would say that a wrapped CD would fulfill that description too, but that’s so imaginationless).

Chokomoon Yuka is a gifted Harajuku illustrator who has lend her pop art illustrations to several projects and products like Dr.Martens, the pop group Exile, Newneu skateboard products, Disney etc etc.

This time she teamed up with sports apparel maker Reebok to create five distinctive pieces.

When you say Reebok, you say Instapump, the super light and oh so comfy kicks. The model used by Chocomoo is the Fury CM.

First fake food hairwear, now footwear!

Passers-by will be salivating over your delicious-looking footwear.

Fake Food Hatanaka first wowed us back in 2013 with their head-turning range of jewellery and headbands, which caused a sensation online again this year with some more snazzy updates. While a browse through their collection turns up some curious products, some of their showstoppers can be found in the company’s footwear department, with two pairs of boots that look so refreshingly delicious we don’t know whether we want to wear them or bite into them!

The “Orange Cake Short Boots” retail for 10,800 yen (US$104), which is not a bad price, considering that most of the restaurant-style food replicas retail for 10,000 yen each.

Limited haori inspired coats are back!

No I’m not going to insult your intelligence by calling these “samurai coats”, it would only cheapen an otherwise high quality products in my opinion, no these coats are based on the kimono men wear called haori,  haori  are nowadays only worn during festivities like weddings and coming of age day (the day 21 year old youngsters celebrate their entrance into the “adult” world).

The men’s kimono is one stylish piece of clothing though, worthy to be worn much more often than just once a year or less. Wearing a hoari on an ordinary day would give you a lot of puzzled looks, kind of like wearing a swimsuit during winter.

Fashion brand Trove introduced last year the Haori “wa-robe” with wa (和)meaning  Japanese style, and it proved to be a very successful concept. selling out in a short time.

This year, the lineup has been expanded to four different pieces, with the warmest being the 29,700-yen (US$288) Wool Haori, with a soft-to-the-touch wool/nylon/polyurethane shell and cupra rayon lining.

While the haori is an old-school garment, the simple, understated design means that they can be paired just as easily with modern fashion as they can traditional Japanese clothing.

Made of waffle-patterned cotton instead of wool, though with the same lining as the Wool Haori, this ivory-colored coat is also priced at 29,700 yen.

A rabbit and a monkey collaborate to create some awesome playful wear.

(former) Japaense fashion maker A Bathing Ape’s lovely mascot Baby Milo has found a new friend in Sanrio’s famous “My Melody” rabbit (or is it a rabbit, after Sanrio told us that Kitty wasn’t a kitty, I’ve lost some confidence).

For those who’ve been living under a stone for the last 25 years, let me give you some Bape facts;

-Bape was founded in 1992 in Tokyo by designer Nigo.

-Nigo got his inspiration from the 1968 film, the Planet of the Apes.

-He gained fame after he asked Japanese artist Cornelius to wear his shirts on stage, Cornelius whose real name is Oyamada, got his stage name from the ape( never call him a monkey!) in…yeah,  planet of the apes.

The monkey and the rabbit will feature in a collection with a wide range of items for lads, ladies and kids, ranging from hoodies, t-shirts, sweaters, towels, cups and ear rings.

 

Sale will start August the 27th, no word yet if they will sell these products outside Japan, so just to be sure head over here and then fill out our request form and we will get it for you.

Personally I won’t see myself wearing one these hoodies, but one of these shirts would look great on jeans under a black jacket, playful yet stylish.
