Back in 2015 we wrote about these fresh newly designed sneakers from “five toe”sneaker maker Vibram and how we all would get rich shipping these shoes to fashion keen, sports minded folks all over the world. Well our optimism about being popular was right on the spot, the part about us getting rich and being able to put our kids through college….not so much. If our accountant really had been to college than he would have been able to calculate that in order to get a zillion yen we needed to ship at least a million shoes…the man forgot that we only charge 10% of the original price which was 17,064 yen….No we didn’t fire him since he’s the only one who actually knows how to use a calculator, in the world of the blind, one eye is……
For the 50th anniversary of Ultraman, Converse has created some awesome kicks, two based on their best selling AllSTAR HI model and one on their SLIP OX.
First up is the ALL STAR ULTRAMAN R HI
Now look at the soles….no one will complain when you sit with your feet up..ever again!
Next up is the ALL STAR ELEKING R HI .
Like the monster in the movies, these glow in the dark!
Look at these soles..sugoi (wow in Japanese)
And last is the BALTANSEIJIN R SLIP OX.
To be worn without or…..
And of course good old Baltan is featured on the soles too.
The shoes will go up for sale in July with prices ranging from 8,500 yen for the Elekings to 9,500 yen for both the others.
Why not combine them with a MAN OF ULTRAxROEN layered pullover parka? (43,200 yen)
Or keep it simple with this MAN OF ULTRA logo t-shirt. (black and white)￥6,372
Funny how things turn out, I admit that I’ve never been a great fan of the early Ultra Man series, but when it comes to fashion, no other superhero has it beat….maybe it’s the simple yet strong name “Ultra Man”, it’s a logo which never looks cheesy but tasteful and can be worn with all outfits. Call me a fan and when I prance around in my new Ultra yukata I know that fashion is on my side and the geek in me will be allowed to walk hand in hand with my better half.

Being an otaku in the corporate world isn’t always easy, strict fashion guidelines prevent you from expressing the real you. Sure you can wear some anime printed underwear, but it’s not ..well how to say this….cheeky….it’s a bit cowardice like putting Coke in a Pepsi bottle during a Pepsi fan meeting.
Now though, you can hide in plain sight, looking quite dashing in a conservative way, but still wearing your heart on your sleeve, with these Girls&Panzer neckties.
Worn beneath a suit they look like ordinary striped ties….
When you take off your jacket they still won’t reveal a thing..no worries you still look like a “serious” corporate worker.
Then when you turn over your tie a smile spreads over your face…knowing that they can take the otaku out of the otaku world, but you can never take the otaku out of the otaku!
They come in two colors, the one above with Nishisumu Miho in blue and Akiyama Yukasato in green.
They are now up for pre-order(delivery in July) and the cheapest option (various sites are selling them) was the one we found here ¥ 4,860 at Gee!Store.
It’s almost that time of the year again, the cicadas sing their songs, the mosquitoes sharpen their claws and people practice their Bon dance moves. When summer knocks on Japan’s door, the country turns into one happy party of amazing fire works displays, cold beer, and summer festivals. The time has come to dust off the Yukata (casual cotton kimono) or get a whole new outfit all together.
The great thing about yukata is that they are easy to put on, making them accessible for everyone. The knot in the obi might be the only hard part, but a quick search on google will solve that problem, and if you use your yukata as room gown you don’t even have to worry about that.
They teamed up with designer Nishioka Pencil (?) and created this Okinawa’s traditional Bingata dyeing technique inspired yukata line. Clear and vivid colors mark this line and the TeleTubbies hairstyle of the model show how thin the line has become between traditional and “mode”.
Cayhane has come up with a Kimono for novice users and advance users who are willing to try something “new”.
The two part yukata is a true versatile piece of clothing, you can use the bottom as a skirt and the top part as an one piece….combine them together and you have a yukata!
The prices are also more than reasonable, averaging 7,000 yen .
Tsukikageya releases new line with adorable kitty and bear prints
For those who want to forgo bright colors and instead opt for something calmer but not less interesting, these kitty and bear printed yukata may be the way to go.
And bears, because nothing says summer like some cute bears..
These ribbons covered yukata is probably one of the cutest yukata you can find.
These come at a price though..each yukata costs 55,529 yen (about US$500).
If you like the more orthodox way, than AEON department has a lovely line-up for you which according to AEON’s policy won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
Shipping on these yukata won’t be high due to the fact that they are rather light, so mail us for info and let us know how we can help you.
YOU+MORE! a branch of mail order company Felissimo was created produce and sell useful products with a humorous touch, hence the name YOU+MORE! (humor..witty uh?).
They derived their inspiration from animals. cute animals, as is common in Japan…however their new line of pouches are hard to be called cute, that is if you’re a common human being and not a sea biologist… Their new line is called YOU+MORE!scary!
Instead of cuddly dogs or heart warming pandas, they chose deep sea creatures as their inspiration. And when I think of deep sea creatures this comes to mind:
Cuddly and heart warming it isn’t…but let’s see what they came up with and we’ll include a picture of the original eh monster.
the frill shark
What da ya know…you can clean your smartphone screen with its mouth!
The men dako (octopus)
You can actually fit quite a lot in this octopus due to its flexible body.
The yeti crab
It will connect to your back pack with its claws.
You can actually operate your smartphone when it’s in the pouch!
They sell for 2,156 yen, and they are light, so shipping won’t hurt your wallet either.
If you’re not in the market for a pouch, but dig the deep sea theme, then what do you think of these deep sea cups?
This is how they look….but when you poor a hot beverage in it…..
The cups can be ordered to be delivered monthly and each month you’ll receive a different cup until you’ve collected all six…you can’t however decide in what order they will appear.
Not into deep sea animals, but dogs instead?
Ha ha this is why we love Japanese consumer products!
Once a hairstyle for married women of samurai families, this kit provides the tools for anyone to tackle this traditional ‘do in minutes!
The marumage—a traditional hairstyle worn by married women in the Edo period from the early 1600s to mid-1800s—fell out of fashion long ago, but can still be seen at formal events like weddings, and Himi City in Toyama Prefecture even has a marumage festival, where a procession of unmarried women in kimono and hair styled in marumage fashion go to a local temple to pray to the goddess of mercy. Hair styling packages are often offered at kimono rental studios in Japan to complement the look, and more likely than not you’ll the marumage as an optional style.
Now, with a little help from a few essentials in this new Marumage Kit, you can recreate this look whenever you want! The kit isn’t exactly a steal, but will pay for itself if you forgo the hairdresser and do it yourself instead. For 8,800 yen (US$80), the kit includes two side pieces and one piece for the back of the head that gives your hair the perceived volume needed to recreate that well-known look. The material clings to your hair without damaging it, allowing for easy styling.
Also included is a comb, one large and four small elastic hair bands, and four hair pins. The only thing you need to prepare is your choice of gel or hairspray to hold the hair in place.
The video below demonstrates the styling process, which the website claims can be done in five to 15 minutes. The lovely model in this video completes it in less than 10.
Due to the popularity of the product, it appears there are currently no more kits in stock, but you can enter your email address in at the website to receive a notification when they are back in (sorry, Japanese only). In the meantime, you can stock up on some of their other hair accessories to add an elegant touch to your marumage!
And no, you don’t have to be Japanese to achieve this look. you would look awesome if you go for the “Oriental” look whether it’s for cosplay or to finish off your Y’s outfit!
Fans of Star Wars and traditional Japanese clothing, your day has come! These new hanten, traditional short-sleeve Japanese jackets, perfectly mix old and new without going overboard in any direction. Called “和Robe” (“Wa-Robe” or literally “Japanese-style Robe”), the jackets come in beige, ivory, and black and you’ll have two designs, which feature different images on the inside of the jacket, to choose from. One jacket sports an image of Yoda on a rock looking contemplative and is available in beige only, and the other offers an image of the poster for the original Star Wars film, which you can have in black or ivory.
▼ Calm and serene or…
▼ …vibrant and badass!!
Of course, it might seem odd to put the graphics on the inside of the jackets, but we think it helps maintain a good balance. And each one features “Star Wars” in large, bold letters on the back of the collar, so your love for the franchise is never totally hidden.
▼ Also, you can do this “action star” pose in photographs!
▼ He wouldn’t look out of place on Tatooine, would he?
▼ The three jacket colors and lettering
In addition to the jackets, a juban shirt (basically a Japanese-style undershirt) will also be available with a print that features both the Millennium Falcon and X-wing fighters. You can pair these undershirts with one of the Wa-Robes for a truly Star Wars-themed torso!
▼ The bold lettering probably isn’t necessary here…but who’s complaining?
The Wa-Robes and juban shirt won’t be available until June, but you can pre-order them now on Trove. The jackets are 19,440 yen each (about US$177) and the juban shirt is 11,880 yen (about $110).
What started as a crowd funding project has turned into an overnight success..

Our piece on the tabi sneakers generated an enthusiastic response from all over the world(not kidding, from Russia to Brazil and so on), so we decided to follow up on this article with a new list of these comfy sneakers from several other brands.
Hand sewn and the use of 100% rubber, creates a feeling that your feet are in direct contact with the ground…like walking bare feet thus creating the Abebe Bikila effect. These shoes are often used by marathon runners in Japan….wow and I thought that thick cushy soles were evolution…go figure.
Cute as a button these SOU SOU sneakers, besides coming in various lovely color patterns, these tabi sneakers have another ace up their sleeves…you can roll down and connect the back part of the sneaker, revealing the inside of the sneaker. These sneakers are according to Japanese tradition hand made.
Original tabi sneakers Shop TABI-JI created a functional and beautiful shoe equipped with EVA soles. They are light and durable sports shoes type, and firmly absorb shocks, and thereby reduce the burden on the foot.
Pretty dressy these ASSABOOTS, they are a little more expensive than the other shoes here, but they look like it too.The lining is Ashirai fabric with a traditional Japanese pattern, The contrast with the black color of the outer material is beautiful.
These sneakers are more of a fashion statement than “let’s do a triathlon kind of sneaker”, but besides being really outstanding in design(the shoe is made out of three different materials) and detail, they are also extremely sturdy and highly comfortable .
Next week is the Nagoya marathon, so I’m going to check out if any runner is wearing tabi sneakers and take some pics…of course in a not obvious way…
